Ghana, Toyota Tsusho seal partnership to boost automotive industry

Ghana has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Toyota Tsusho Corporation (TTC) to strengthen collaboration in the country’s automotive industry, marking a major step toward advancing green mobility and industrial growth.

The agreement was signed by the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, on the sidelines of the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) in Yokohama, Japan. It focuses on promoting environmentally friendly vehicles, beginning with Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), as part of Ghana’s efforts to support green mobility and reduce carbon emissions through a multi-pathway approach.

In addition to vehicle promotion, the MoU includes human resource development through technical training, knowledge transfer, and the potential establishment of a Toyota Academy in Ghana. The partnership will also explore initiatives to expand Ghana’s automotive market and support the country’s broader industrialisation agenda.

The agreement highlights Ghana’s commitment to becoming a competitive hub for automotive assembly and green innovation in Africa, while deepening trade and investment relations with Japan.
