Ghana has achieved Tier 1 status in the 2024 Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), positioning itself as a global leader in cybersecurity. The highest ranking, Tier 1, recognizes nations that serve as role models in cybersecurity practices.
Ghana scored 99.27%, demonstrating leadership in Africa, second only to Mauritius. This marks a significant improvement from the country’s 86.69% score in 2020.
The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) attributed this success to key developments, including the implementation of the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038), the licensing of cybersecurity professionals, and the protection of critical digital infrastructure. The score also reflects progress in the areas of Legal, Technical, Organizational, Capacity Building, and Cooperation.
