Google has announced the discontinuation of its chat and call history features in Google Business Profile. Effective immediately, customers will no longer be able to initiate new chat conversations with businesses via Google. All chat functionality will be phased out by July 31, 2024.

Despite these changes, businesses will still be discoverable and contactable via Google Search and Maps. Customers can continue to learn about businesses through website links, descriptions, photos, and other shared information on Business Profiles.

To assist businesses with the transition, Google has provided key dates and next steps. Starting today, customers can no longer start new chat conversations. By July 31, all chat functionalities will cease, and businesses will no longer receive new chat messages.
