The meeting formed part of the Halal Ecosystem Development Project, an initiative aimed at building a credible Halal industry, attracting investment, and positioning Ghana as the Halal hub for West Africa. It also marked another step in deepening bilateral cooperation between Ghana and Malaysia, particularly in advancing trade standards.
Sheikh Salma Mohammed Alhasan, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Bureau of Halal Certification Ghana, emphasised Ghana’s strategic entry into the global Halal market. He noted that Malaysia was ready to share its expertise in building a strong certification system while opening new investment opportunities between the two countries.

Discussions also focused on Ghana’s pathway to securing international Halal recognition through the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia, which would significantly boost the credibility and marketability of Ghanaian Halal-certified products. Sheikh Salma further invited Ghana to participate in the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS 2025), scheduled for 17th to 20th September in Kuala Lumpur, as an opportunity to showcase products and forge global partnerships.
Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Minister, Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr. Noah Tumfo, welcomed the initiative and stressed that a robust Halal ecosystem would unlock new trade and investment opportunities for Ghanaian businesses. He reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to positioning itself as West Africa’s preferred Halal hub and strengthening trade partnerships with Malaysia and beyond.
