The Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Hon. Mohammed Adam Sukparu, speaking on behalf of Sector Minister Hon. (MP), has announced Ghana’s bold commitment to building a digitally empowered future.

Delivering his remarks at the Pre-Global Data Festival Ghana High-Level Meeting held at Kempinski on August 26, 2025, the Deputy Minister said that under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, Ghana is placing digital technology at the heart of national development.

The meeting was attended by Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman, Dr. Korir Sing’Oei, Principal Secretary of , Columbia’s Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Zia Choudhury, UN Resident Coordinator, and Government Statistician Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu.

He highlighted the government’s flagship , describing it as a fulfilled promise outlined in the 2024 NDC Manifesto. The initiative seeks to equip one million Ghanaians with skills in coding, artificial intelligence, , and data analytics. Since its launch, over 90,000 applications were received within 48 hours, and 150,000 applicants are currently registered to begin training.

“With one million coders and thousands of specialists in AI, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies, Ghana will not merely participate in the global digital economy—we will lead it,” the Deputy Minister stated.

He also outlined other initiatives, including the Draft National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, the Ghana Innovation and Startup Bill, and the Girls-In-ICT Programme. So far, 1,000 girls have been trained under the Girls-In-ICT initiative, with a target of 3,000 by year-end.

The Deputy Minister urged parents, educators, businesses, policymakers, and the youth to work together in building a digitally inclusive future, saying, “let us rise together and build a future where every Ghanaian has the tools to thrive in the digital age.”
